Other sourdough starter name ideas

  • Consider playful names inspired by famous figures, for example, Celine Doughon, Bread Pitt, Doughnald Trump, Kim Carbashian, and Wheat-ney Houston.
  • Add a sentimental touch by naming your starter after the person who gifted it to you. Just avoid using names like your family members'. Starters can sometimes go bad, and you don't want to feel guilty discarding such a special name.
  • Get personal with a name like "Sour [Your First Name]" or "Sour [Your Last Name]."
  • Name your sourdough starter after the place you live or your favorite destination.
  • Create an acronym like BDE for Big Dough Energy or OBE for Ongoing Biology Experiment.

Some bakers even give names to their discard, adding a fun twist to their sourdough journey.

I decided on “OLAF” as a word play name for my starter after being inspired by your list and the resulting first few bakes producing something akin to real loafs, lol! He is still a somewhat young 2 months after struggling for most of the first month.

My starter is named Bubblee Bessie, Bess for short, after my grandmother! A friend shared her started so I am a newbie! Made my first loaf and it turned out great! Also working on discard recipes. Chocolate chip muffins were great! Thank you for all your help! I have gone from knowing nothing to getting a good grasp on this wonderful craft! Still learning!
